Sanofi Pasteur, Janssen and UCB win at eyeforpharma

Sanofi Pasteur’s global awareness programme for Dengue Fever, ‘Break Dengue’, was yesterday announced the winner of the ‘Most Impactful Emerging or Global Initiative’ category at the eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards, following a unanimous vote by the panel of international industry experts and patient advocates.

The eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards uniquely support pharmaceutical companies who prioritise value for patients and customers.

Break Dengue is a non-profit, open platform to engage with, educate and link together Dengue-fighting initiatives from all over the world into one, centralized hub. After analysing conversations about Dengue on twitter from all over the world, Sanofi contacted the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation about a potential worldwide community. Soon after, 7 supporting partners from both private and public sectors came together to form Break Dengue.

All the content comes from an external, independent editorial board and from the public media, creating a neutral non-profit organization operated by a coalition of partners.

“What makes Break Dengue unique is the unprecedented level of partnership; coming together as one to fight against a disease against which no prevention or cure currently exists”, said Paul Simms, Chairman of eyeforpharma.

In its first week alone, Break Dengue had over 10,000 Facebook followers, reaching 100,000 after three months. After one year it boasted a quarter of a million followers. The use of social media to connect voices and initiatives from around the globe was what struck the judges the most. Judge Marco Mohowinkel of Janssen Healthcare Innovation commented: “This project has a strong mix of successful ingredients: great concept, smart origination, great leverage of social media, significant reach and strong partnership approach”.

The winning projects were selected from hundreds of initiatives from Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, announced yesterday, 24th March, at the 2nd annual eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards ceremony. The winners were determined by an international judging panel of senior industry experts and patient advocates.

Paul Simms commented last night: “These awards are about encouraging those in pharma who are adding real value to the lives of their customers, through innovative channels. Break Dengue is the perfect example of identifying a need for something bigger in the fight for disease awareness; and demonstrates an ideal model which could be replicated for so many other diseases across the globe”.

Janssen Healthcare Innovation’s Care4Today scores a double win at the eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards 2015

Not one, but two initiatives from Janssen Healthcare Innovation have been separately voted ‘Most Valuable’ at the eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards. This is the first time a single company has won on multiple fronts at this ceremony.

The eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards uniquely support pharmaceutical companies who prioritise value for patients and customers.

The Orthopaedic and Heart Health Solutions from the Care4Today range were yesterday announced as winners in the ‘Most Valuable Patient’ and ‘Most Valuable HCP’ categories, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to transforming healthcare for the consumer.

Both initiatives were designed to involve and educate patients throughout their surgery, recovery and rehabilitation, improving not only the learning and experience of the patient, but relieving pressure on HCPs throughout the recovery process, reducing waiting times and creating engaged, empowered patients.

The Orthopaedic Solutions initiative, in conjunction with DePuy Synthes and Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital in London, comprises an interactive patient experience through a printed pack and interactive website to improve the journey of hip/knee replacement patients. Patient judge Heidi Floyd commented: “Guiding a patient from beginning to end of their surgical journey, stepping through all the way to end of recovery?  Magnificent.  As patients, we often are overwhelmed and unable to absorb required data while preparing for life-changing surgery.  This resource appears to be the perfect tool to enable and encourage patients to educate themselves about the intense process – at their own pace.  Health information such as this will change the future for patients and caregivers worldwide.”

The winning projects were selected from hundreds of initiatives from Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia/Pac, and announced yesterday at the 2nd annual eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards ceremony, determined by an international judging panel of senior industry experts, and patient advocates.

Favouring projects which could demonstrate a real improvement in the lives of the consumer, judge Steve Turley, Lundbeck, commented of the Heart Health Solutions programme: “this is an excellent project based on deep and meaningful insight, making a real difference for the company, HCPs, and patients”. The initiative is a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programme which digitises health records allowing for improved referral and recruitment of patients onto cardiac rehabilitation and providing engaging and interactive exercise programmes for patients based on real-time data.

eyeforpharma Chairman Paul Simms commented: “These two awards are our most popular and are keenly fought over. For one company to win both is an incredible achievement and places Janssen Healthcare Innovation at the very pinnacle in terms of creating real value for patients and customers”.

UCB takes “Customer Innovation” and “Lifetime Value Achievement” top honours for staff commitment to improving patient experience

Two of UCB’s biggest patient innovators were yesterday announced as winners at the eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards for their long-term commitment to improve patient experience.

Both Christi Marsh, Director of North American Medical Information and Communications and the brains behind UCBCares, and departing CEO Roch Doliveux, were commended for their innovation and unrelenting focus on the needs of their patient. Marsh took home the ‘Customer Innovator Award’ while Doliveux joined Patrick Cashman of Lundbeck Canada as the second ever winner of the Lifetime Value Achievement Award.

UCBCares, a one-stop-shop for patients which combines all call-centres and sources of patient and customer services under one number and office space was commended by 2014 winner of the Customer Innovator Award, John Pugh of Boehringer Ingelheim, who commented: “Christi demonstrated a high degree of empathy and understanding of patients when coming up with the idea for UCBCares and subsequently drove forward a solution that best met their needs, rather than just the company’s”.

Patients are assigned a solutions manager to personally address their concerns from assistance, medical information and healthcare referrals to clinical study guidance and even non-UCB medication.

Nominated for the Lifetime Value Achievement Award for the second year in a row, Mr Doliveux has now been recognised for developing UCB into a focused, patient-centric industry leader recognized for growth and a strong pipeline. In 2012, Roch unveiled UCB’s new tagline – ‘Inspired by patients. Driven by science.’  This focus on empathy and innovation reflects the core of what UCB has become under Roch’s leadership, with the company annually surveying all 9,000 staff to determine the level of patient-centric employee attitudes.

The awards both befit a consistent and determined approach to innovation, resilience and value creation over many years. On the lifetime achievement, Paul Simms, Chairman of eyeforpharma commented; “Roch is very deserving of this award; showing that true innovation and patient-centricity in pharma should be driven right from the top of the business. His approach combines successful business with what truly matters in pharma: improving the lives of others”.
