Thoughts from Andrew Spurgeon, ECD at Langland UK who is judging at the inaugural Lions Health awards in Cannes.
Wellness and Pharma juries came together this evening at the ultra-chic Five Hotel, Cannes. Roof top aperitifs gave the world of healthcare an hour to mingle before joining their allocated tables for an expertly designed dinner.
I was lucky to be one Brazilian judge down from Terry Savage. Aussie bon vivant, Festival organiser and the bloke widely credited with bringing the competition into the 21st Century. Terry’s welcome speech provided the background narrative for the days to come. Namely, that we jurors should have fun, but not forget our responsibility to help set a new standard for the category. Approving nods all round and genuine applause for someone that’s now as synonymous with Cannes as sunshine and rose.
The wine flowed as did the conversation, and it wasn’t long before we were all making connections between who we knew in healthcare and the wider advertising industry. Although, no one was in any doubt that this was a school night, and proceedings drew to a close very sensibly before midnight.
A short walk back to the hotel gave people a chance to continue to get to know each other, and I got to say hello to one of the guys from Serviceplan. It’s an agency we hold in high regard, and what do you know? They feel the same way about Langland.
