Gareth Malone helps Ogilvy & Mather London hit the right note to scoop the top prize at IPA Best of Health Awards

Ogilvy & Mather London took home the Best of Show special prize for outstanding healthcare advertising for ‘Breathless Choir’ for Philips, at the IPA Best of Health Show 2016.

The awards ceremony, which celebrates the best creative work in healthcare advertising, was held tonight (29 November) at Bloomsbury Ballroom.

To demonstrate that Philips is an organisation dedicated to improving people’s lives, Ogilvy & Mather London recruited world-renowned choirmaster Gareth Malone to inspire eighteen people with breathing conditions to sing again, aided by the Philips SimplyGo Mini Oxygen Concentrator. Malone created a custom arrangement of The Police’s ‘Every Breath You Take’ and coached the singers through their difficulties to perform at the Apollo Theatre in New York City.

Ogilvy & Mather turned this into an online campaign reaching millions, with the aim of promoting Philips’ respiratory device, SimplyGo Mini. They followed this up with further content emphasising innovation and healthcare expertise to healthcare professionals, medical decision makers and the public.

In total, 10 entries won gold, 22 won silver and 42 achieved bronze. Also awarded was the inaugural Special Award for Innovation in Healthcare to Serviceplan Korea for DOT. ‘The First Braille Smartwatch’, and the Pip Award for Young Talent to Sudler London.

Says Lee Williams, Convenor of Judges and Executive Creative Director at Sudler & Hennessey London, “Judging the Best of Health Show provides a fascinating insight into the breadth and depth of creativity in healthcare – a category often derided for its lack of creativity!  All those picking up awards should be proud to be leading the way in this field – particularly those collecting Gold and Special awards. Particular praise must of course go to the Best of Show ‘Breathless Choir’ – a campaign which truly demonstrates the enormous impact of a great idea. We must remember this work was done for the not-so-glamorous healthcare devices category and it spans – and appeals to –  patients AND HCPs.”

Says Elspeth Lynn, Chairman of Judges and Group Creative Director at FCB Inferno, “The winning line-up provides a collection of the finest creative healthcare communications that really impressed this year’s judges. Ogilvy and Mather London’s inspiring campaign for Philips beat out some other stellar entries on the short list and is a worthy winner of Best of Show. Congratulations to all!”
